I long for the days when most desserts included real fruit. It seems like you have to go to an old fashioned diner to find a decent slice of Cherry Pie now. So, I put fresh berries and cherries in this variation of my belgian waffle dessert.

I never follow any recipe exactly as I read it. I have an extensive collection of cook books and I use them to find the basic ingredients for any specific recipe and then alter the portions and/or ingredients to suit my tastes. I'll frequently refer to several different cook books to get ideas for variations of optional ingredients and use only the ones I like.

Android's first rule of cooking is never use water as an ingredient. When a sauce or batter needs thinning, I will use some other liquid that will enhance the flavor of whatever I'm preparing rather than water it down. Ale, Beer, Cream, Fruit Juice, Tomato Juice, Milk, Liquors, Maple Syrup, V-8 Juice, Wine, even Soda Pop can be used as substitute liquids. Look at the variety of flavors to choose from in liquors; Anisette, Bourbon, Cognac, or Amaretto, Brandy, Cordials could be the ABC's of liquor flavors. There must be at least one liquor flavor for every letter of the alphabet. With all of the different flavored liquids to choose from, I can always find a compatible flavor for my recipe.
