The Vermort 5 ride - September 15th & 16th 2000

The lousy weather forecast prompted some of the Vermort Riders to cancel. But, for those of us who took a chance, we enjoyed a pretty nice weekend. With the exception of a few sprinkles the last 5 miles into Colchester both days were dry with temperatures in the 60's.

We had packed our bikes Friday night. So, when Saturday morning arrived, we just saddled up and headed north to meet Don and "DC" for breakfast in Derry. As usual, Don selected a nice little place for a hearty breakfast before leading the ride for some great motorcycling across NH. Winding roads, smooth pavement, and scenic views provided for a really nice ride to Windsor where we met the others for the final leg to Colchester.

Allen-1, "Ghost", my son Eric, and his wife Shanine were already in Windsor when we arrived. "The Banker" arrived shortly and I got the usual reaction from Allen-1 and "The Banker" who had not yet witnessed my transformation. Of course everyone recognizes Effie and after a few seconds they realize the guy with her is me! After a warm meal and a little discussion, we're on our way with "The Banker" leading us up through central VT to Colchester.

This would be the first time for Eric to ride his new Buell up through Granville Gulf and Appalachian Gap. It was also the first time for me to see how my new 2001 Dyna Glide T-Sport handles all of those familiar curves. It was great! No more worrying about which part of my bike would be scraping on the tight corners. Of course, Eric enjoyed blasting up through on his Buell and circling back to rejoin the group a few times.

There was barely enough shoulder space for everyone crowded around the fireplace in Ken's living room. But, Effie staked out her space early and stood her ground as others took their turns in front of the warm fire. It wasn't long before we headed down to The Clover House for dinner and plenty of that seafood chowdah they're famous for. After that big meal, some of us were ready for a long nap.

Early the next morning, we reconvened for breakfast at The Clover House before splitting up for the rides home. I remembered that my camera was packed away in the saddle bag and finally took it out for a few pictures. We (the Warren's) headed back down the same route through central VT in order to experience those same twisty's from the other direction.
